The workshop
Portland Off Road has been going since 2014, and it is still the same shed on Fitzgerald Street: workshop at one end, accessories counter at the other. Matt owns it and works in it, alongside the mechanic. That is the whole operation, and it is why the person who quotes your job is the person who does it.
Portland sits on the run between Melbourne and Adelaide, so a fair slice of the work walks in unannounced: a swivel hub on an 80 Series, a snapped trailer coil, something that started knocking two hundred kilometres back. Those jobs get looked at the same day wherever it can be managed, because the alternative is somebody stuck a long way from home.
“The owner and the mechanic are friendly, patient, and take the time to explain what's wrong and what needs fixing.”

What we do
The sign out the front has said the same three words since 2014. Here is what sits behind them.
Routine servicing, diagnostics and mechanical repairs on four wheel drives, done in the workshop on Fitzgerald Street.
Dobinsons suspension, shocks and coils, fitted and set up for how the vehicle is actually loaded and driven.
Bull bars, driving lights, drawers, toolboxes, dual battery and 12V wiring. Built around the trip you have in mind.
Kenda tyres supplied, fitted and balanced, along with wheels and rims to suit.
Winches, snatch straps, rated shackles, recovery hitches, lights and camping gear, in stock over the counter.
Before a long run, a look over the vehicle so problems turn up in the workshop instead of a thousand kilometres from home.
Full vehicle builds and body rebuilds, taken back to bare metal where the job calls for it.
Not sure which of those your vehicle needs? Ring the workshop and describe it. That conversation is free and usually shorter than reading about it.
Brands on the sign, and on the shelves
Over the counter
The front of the shed is a proper accessories counter, not a catalogue. Suspension, recovery gear, lighting, 12V and camping kit, on the wall where you can look at it before you buy it.

Builds and rebuilds
Alongside the servicing work, the workshop takes on full vehicle builds and body rebuilds. Front end out, suspension out, everything laid out on the bench and put back properly rather than patched around.
It is the kind of job that needs a shed with room in it and someone willing to have your vehicle for a while. If that is what yours needs, come and talk about it.

“Could not reccomend these guys highly enough! I broke down in portland on a work trip. Matt fit me in on short notice, stayed open late to take the car and order the parts. Got me going in time to get me home. Great service, communication and mechanical advice. If you need a mechanic come here!”
“Top notch garage reliable and professional. The owner and the mechanic are friendly, patient, and take the time to explain what's wrong and what needs fixing. They even checked a few things we didn't ask for and sorted them out. They fit us in at the last minute, helped us sort the problem, and now we can drive with total peace of mind. Highly recommended!”
“Extremely grateful for this team - ran into issues with the swivel hub on our 80series travelling interstate, Matt was able to fit us in and get us on our way within the day. Super knowledgeable and efficient, 100% recommend.”
“Currently on a 3 month road trip and our trailer snapped a coil. We rung more than a dozen garages from Portland to Adelaide (our next stop) and no one could help. Got recommended these guys and they fitted us in the same day and it was cheaper than we had predicted!! They also gave us the best recommendation for a spot to visit and see some seals whilst we waited! Top fellas!!!”
